Fees

How do I charge?

I charge on one hourly rate for all my services and you pay only for the time worked on a particular project. For example, a proofread is quicker to perform than a copy edit so will be cheaper, while a heavy or structural edit takes longer to perform than a copy edit so tends to cost more. Charging one rate avoids confusion with separate rates where I perform multiple and, sometimes, overlapping or unexpected editorial and other related tasks for a client.

When editing or proofreading a project, the complexity of the subject matter, the type of project, the number of specialist terms, and other individual elements needing to be checked and the number of editorial changes and queries needing to be made to get the material to a high-quality professional standard affect the length of time spent on it, and hence fees. A similar process applies with writing.

Where appropriate, I may provide estimates relating to the cost, duration, and other aspects of projects proposed by you as the client. At times, I may also agree to quote to work for a flat fee for a project.

Please note: as I value a balanced life, I reserve the right to charge rush fees for projects that need to be completed within short timeframes and require me to work late nights or weekends. These rush projects may accrue a 20% surcharge on the late-night or weekend hours.

My hourly rate does alter slightly depending on circumstances and the type of project I am to work on.

If you have a query about my charges and are interested in finding out what my rate might be for one of your projects, I urge you to get in contact.
